About Prof. Dr. Erich Reinhardt
Prof. Dr. Erich R. Reinhardt, born in 1946 in Oehringen (Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany), completed his studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Stuttgart in 1972.
From 1972 to 1983 he pursued research at the Institute of Physical Electronics where he also earned his doctorate in 1979. The major research activities were: Optical and Digital Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Automated Cytology, 3D Image Formation for Medical Application.
His career with Siemens AG began in 1983 as Head of Applications Development in Magnetic Resonance (MR). In 1986 Erich R. Reinhardt was promoted to Head of the MR Division. In 1990 he became the Managing Director of Siemens Ltd., Bombay, India. In April 1994 he was nominated as CEO and President of Siemens Medical Solutions. In November 2001, he also became a member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG.
At present Erich R. Reinhardt is Chairman of Medical Valley EMN Board. He has numerous memberships in university and industry panels. Amongst others he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg; a member of the Varex Imaging Board, Salt Lake City; a member of the Board of Trustees of the University Hospital Erlangen; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DiaMedCare, Basel; a member of the Board of Trustees of the Max-Planck-Institute – Science of Light, Erlangen and a member of the Board of Directors of I-MED, Sydney.
Erich R. Reinhardt received an honorary doctorate (Doctor honoris causa) in June 2002 from the Technical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg, and the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg also awarded him an honorary doctorate in January 2005. He is a honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart. In October 2013 he received the Golden Ring of Honor from the City of Erlangen.
Erich R. Reinhardt is married and has two daughters.
